Forest Road 23 south of Blue Lake out of Randle, temporary closure due to construction

July 23 to August 27

Federal Highways will be completing repair work they began last season on Forest Road 23 beginning Monday, July 23.  Repairs will complete the reconstruction, drainage work, and repaving.  The work includes constructing a concrete box culvert that crosses under the roadway.  The road will be closed between FR 2322 and 2325 (which is located between MP21.1 to MP 24.6 – approx. 3.5 miles) from July 23 to August 27.  The Dark Meadow #263 Trailhead will not be accessible during construction.  Vehicles travelling between Trout Lake and Randle will not be able to use Forest Road 23 the entire way and will have to use an alternate route.  We are asking people to contact the Ranger Districts for information on open roads in the area.   Cowlitz Valley Ranger District at (360) 497-1100 or the Mt. Adams Ranger District at (509) 395-3400.  We recognize this will be an inconvenience to forest visitors, and we’re hoping people will be understanding that this work needs to occur in the summer and fall seasons because of weather.  And, how important it is to keep roads repaired and viable for travel.
